Mind Maelstrom
GoDaddy in a Nutshell

A good friend of mine sent me this summary of his GoDaddy experience after signing up for hosting for the first time:

(1)  Busiest visual layout imaginable

(2)  unrelenting upsell mentality

(3)  nothing happens in real time, usually there is a ‘setup period” for everything

(4)  menu organization has a lot of redundancy thus making it confusing to use

(5)  pretty girl covers a multitude of sins, but not enough.

…that about sums it up for me.

Twitter Has New Look… Now with 100% more Facebook!

If you haven’t noticed, twitter now has a new layout and features available.  I swear, in 2 years we won’t be able to tell the difference between Facebook and Twitter.  Since they keep trying to imitate each other, why don’t they just give up the flirting and just merge already?

Look, the web needs to services: aggregation and social networking.  Twitter - you’re an aggregator.  Facebook - you’re a social network.  Now stop imitating each other and do what you each do best.  After all, if you just believe in yourself, you can do anything! *sniff*

Fast Company explains 5 marketing tips taken from the great Mr. Rogers.  Many of my generation, and younger, look up to Mr. Rogers as a prime example of a genuine and sincere television personality.  He is also a strong case for how you don’t need to pander to or patronize children to hold there attention.

However, don’t think I didn’t notice his own hidden megalomania.  I wish I had a hidden “kingdom” in my closet where people performed for my amusement too….

Financial incentive only motivates at a primitive level, this video shows how if you want people to produce things that really help the world, you have to treat them like people.  Who knew!?!  I am so glad we have science to spend decades of time and millions of dollars to tell us things I knew when I was 12 years old.

Here is a smart-ass comment about this scientific paper and how I think it is stupid because it doesn’t agree with my non-scientific opinion OR doesn’t agree with me strongly enough.

Bob Sutton does a great job of listing all 11 qualities that make up mind of a legendary oppressor.  I especially like his repeated use of the word “underling”… I like that.

Is your inbox full of pleads for mercy… or requests for wire transfers from Nigerian princes?  Well, mine is.  That is why I am happy to see Gmail has added the ability to tune out the masses’ incessant cries for pity so I can focus on what is truly important: Playstation store updates.  If your inbox needs tamed, you will be pleased.
